Differentiate between Memo and Letter

Differentiate between Memo and Letter according to their definition ,purpose ,Types and criteria ?

Memo :-
 •Definition :-
 A memo is a document typically used for communication within a
 company . OR
 A message or information in writing sent by one person or
 department to another department in same business organization .
•Purpose :-
1 .A memo’s purpose is often to inform, but it occasionally includes an element of
persuasion or a call to action.
2 .A memo is a document or other communication that helps the memory by
recording events or observations on a topic, such as may be used in a business
office.
3 . A memo is a record of the terms of a transaction or contract, such as a policy
memo, memorandum of understanding, memorandum of agreement, or
memorandum of association.
4 .One effective way to address informal, unofficial speculation is to spell out clearly

for all employees what is going on with a particular issue.

•Criteria :- 
A memo is usually a page or two long, should be single spaced and left
justified. Instead of using indentations to show new paragraphs, skip a line
between sentences. Business materials should be concise and easy to read.
Therefore it is beneficial to use headings and lists to help the reader pinpoint
certain information.Headings should include the full name (no nicknames) of the
person or people who will receive the document. You should also include your
full name, and the date the memo was prepared. The next part of the heading is the subject of the memo, which is usually indicated by "RE:", which stands for
"regarding." Make the subject as specific as possible.

     Letter :-

•Definition :- A letter is a written message from one party to another containing
information . Letters guarantee the preservation of information between both
parties we send letters outside the organization .
•Purpose :- Letters were first used as a form of communication. With technology
improvements, however, it has become a less popular way for people to
communication between people who lived apart from family and friends.Since
letters were first written using leaves and bark, this practice of communication
has evolved quite a bit. Handwritten letters and postcards are still a popular
form of communication, but it has been overshadowed by digital advances that
enable people to communicate quicker, such as text messages and social media
networks.

  2. .Have a consistent size and spacing of letters
  3. .Show flow and movement
  4. .Show a confident personal style.
  5. You need to make the link between what you can do, and have done in the past,

  7. Always give examples and avoid unsubstantiated claims. You can use bullet
  8. points if there is a list of points you are making.
